Herman Vaughn Pugh

Herman Vaughn Pugh, of Clayton, passed away January 20, 2024 at his home in Stanley, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years. Vaughn was born March 9, 1943 in Haileyville, Oklahoma to Herman and Ruby (Castle) Pugh. He grew up in Clayton, where he called home the majority of his life. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1961. Immediately following high school, Vaughn joined the U.S. Army where he served active duty and then in the reserves until 1968. On June 16, 1962 he married Marlichia Pool. They had four children - Kimberly, Vonda, Alichia and Jeffery. Vaughn attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and then completed his degree at Oklahoma State University with a major in Vocational Agriculture and Science. He taught Vo-Ag and shop at Valliant before taking over at Clayton High School, where he taught until 1979. After teaching, Vaughn started his own hog business, hauled pulp wood and then went into the logging business. After getting out of logging, he continued to work on his ranch in Stanley where he raised cattle and worked the land on his tractor and dozer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ruby Pugh, sister Betty Huddleston, daughter Kimberly Cagle, and granddaughter Madison Howell. His surviving family includes his wife of 61 years, Marlichia Pugh; 3 children, Vonda Howell, Alichia Whitehead and husband Steve, and Jeffery Pugh and wife Lorie; 1 brother, Otis Pugh and wife Carolyn; 15 grandchildren, Matthew Cagle, Jace Cagle and wife Kelsea, Lexie Cagle, Luke Howell and wife Maida, Kate Howell, Mitchell Howell, Jacob Whitehead and wife Jade, Joshua Whitehead and wife Tori, Jeffery Whitehead, Jenna Whitehead, Tyler Pugh and wife Leigh, Ryan Pugh and wife Leslie, Mikaila Summy and husband Tanner, Karsten Allen, and Madison Allen; 9 great grandchildren, Nolan, Ian and Bradlea Cagle, Rose Whitehead, Benjamin Pugh, Ella, Evelyn and Hayden Pugh, and Lainey Rosco - with number 10 arriving in May, Scarlett Howell; and numerous other family members. Visitation will be on Friday, January 26th, 2024 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at McCarn Funeral Chapel in Clayton, Oklahoma. Services will be on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at 2:00PM at Clayton School Auditorium with Joshua Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at Stanley Cemetery in Stanley, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to McCarn Funeral Service.
