James Monroe Melton

James Monroe Melton, age 91, of Talihina, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, September 3rd, 2020 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. James was born on January 2nd, 1929 to Lymon and Etta Mae (McCoy) Melton in Lenox, Oklahoma. He married Loretta Amos Melton on July 10th, 1954 in Talihina, Oklahoma. James was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was very active in church, he retired in 1993 after 23 years of working in IHS Indian Hospital in the OEH department. He enjoyed Choctaw singings, family gathering and grandkids, gardening and working outside when he could. He was a great father, grandfather and great grand father and friend. James is survived by five daughters, Elizabeth and Hugh Morgan of Talihina, OK, Donna Melton of Talihina, OK, Cynthia Melton of Broken Bow, OK, Darlene and Austin Ludlow of Talihina, OK and Judy Melton of Poteau, OK; three sons, Lysander Melton of Talihina, OK, Jonathan Melton of Talihina, OK, and DeWayne Melton of Woodward, OK; twenty grandchildren, fifty-one great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley James of Bengal, OK and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. James is preceded in passing by his wife, Loretta Melton; parents, Lymon and Etta Mae (McCoy) Melton; son, baby Melton; two grandsons, Justin Melton and Leonard Jackson, six sisters and four brothers. The family would like to give a special thanks to Kenny Bryant, Raymond Johnson, and David Warden and everyone who has reached out to our family and helped in anyway they could. Pallbearers will be Mitchell Melton, Brian Morgan, Terry Ludlow, Marcus Melton, Mauro Sanchez, Nashoba Watson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon Morgan, Donavan Morgan, RJ Watson, DaQuinlin Pell, Lorenzo Cervantes, Amando Sotelo, Koda Sanchez and Dylan Melton. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Good Springs Church in Lenox, Oklahoma with burial to follow at James and Folsom Cemetery in Lenox, Oklahoma with Bro. Kenny Bryant officiating. Services are under the direction of McCarn Funeral Service of Talihina, Oklahoma.
