Eugene Louis Handelman

July 22, 1933 - September 20, 2020

Eugene (Gene) Louis Handelman was born on July 22nd, 1933 in Mount Vernon, New York. He graduated from high school and went directly into the Military, but was discharged because of his age. Gene became a deep sea diver where he repaired and laid piping underwater which let him be a diver all over the world. He moved to California and was a abalone diver off the coast before retiring to Round Prairie, Oklahoma where he built his ranch in the early 70's and married Rowena in 1988 and they worked the ranch until Gene passed away from this life on September 20th, 2020 at his home with family by his side. Gene is survived by his wife, Rowena Carlton Handelman of the home; brother, Lad Handelman, of Santa Barbara, CA; stepchildren, Troy Sturgeon of Yanush, OK, Tracy and wife Amy Sturgeon of Round Prairie, OK, Joyce Jack of Wimberly, TX, Elizabeth, Debbie, Stephen, and Bobby Mattson; grandchildren, Newt Jan of Victoria, TX, Megan Koeijmans of Dallas, TX, and Madelynne Johnston of Waco, TX; step-grandchildren Blake and fiance Ashley Fassino, Kendall, Cody, Tyler, Nelson, Cordell Sturgeon, Dakota and wife Shila Carroll, and Brittany Carroll; great grand children, Nathanile, Carmon, Briley Sturgeon, Caleb Brown, Liam and Heidi Carroll; aunt, Audre Bennett; nephews, Jim and Roy Handelman, and niece, Lorie Handelman; cousins, Stephen, Jeff, and Robby Bennett. Gene is preceded in death by his daughter, Tami Jene Handelman, step-son, Tony Sturgeon, mother, Barbara Pirog, father, Louis Handelman, step-mother, Joan Handelman. Memorial service will be Saturday September 26, 2020 at 5 P.M. at Cupco Freewill Baptist Church in Yanush, Oklahoma. Cremation services are being provided by McCarn Funeral Service of Talihina, Oklahoma.
