John Wayne Emmert, Sr.

John Wayne Emmert Sr. age 91 of Talihina, Oklahoma passed away from this life on February 27th, 2022 in Talihina, Oklahoma. John was born on June 25th, 1930 to Bertha Ann (Bryant) and Robin Belton Emmert in Albion, Oklahoma. John graduated High School in Talihina, Oklahoma, Class of 1950, shortly after, he joined the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He served for four years aboard the USS Stembol DD 644, a destroyer. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Janie Ben (Emmert) in 1969. John's goal was to have some land, cattle, horses, and a large family. He was successful because he had it all. John loved farming and ranching and working his land. John was proud of his heritage and his roots in the Choctaw Nation and the Kiamichi Valley. He worked for the IHS for 30 years in the boiler room until his retirement in 1984, then he spent his time telling stories at the Hateful Hussy, ranching and spending time with his family. He was very proud of his family and loved them dearly. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his wife, Janie Emmert of the home; children, Rocky Emmert, Johnny Emmert and Keri Jo, Melvin Emmert and Melissa, and Darren and Jo Brown; grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, McKinnlee, Caitlin, Chase, Lacey, Kenton, Emily, Tucker, Payton, Chris, Cole, Walker, Taylor, Kason, Saydee Sue, Kelsey, Saysha; great grandchildren, Makayla, Everlynn, Tinlee, Tachet, Sora, Raylie, Stephanie; great great grandaughter, Amaya; two sister in laws, Jean Emmert and Flo Emmert as well as many many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. John is preceded in passing by his parents, Bertha and Robin Emmert; Poppa Cabbage; daughter, Sheila Stegall; siblings, Jack, Betty, Frances, Bob, Mark and Patti. Pallbearers are Melvin Emmert, Rocky Emmert, Johnny Emmert, Darren Brown, Chad Hampton, Charles Husk Honorary Pallbearers are David Fox, Sherman Ward, Charles Carden, Paul Emmert, Bobby Holt, Arthur Brunson, Pam Brown Lewis, Terri Lynn Culbert, Dave Reddick, Rusty Barron Mark Wayne Emmert, Ozzy Johnson, Aaron Grey Visitation will be on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at McCarn Funeral Home in Talihina, Oklahoma. Services will be on Friday, March 4th, 2022 at 2:00PM at Talihina School Auditorium in Talihina, Oklahoma with Bro. Mark Cook and Bro. Danny Harris officiating. Interment will follow at the Old City Cemetery in Talihina, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to McCarn Funeral Service of Talihina, Oklahoma.
