Joe Edward Brown

Joe Edward Brown had his home going Sunday, June 25. He was 85 years old. He was born October 4, 1937, in Sardis, Oklahoma and lived most days of his life in the home he was raised in from the age of twelve until his passing. Joe graduated high school at Tuskahoma. The few short years he was away from the Brown home place he was registered with the National Guard. While there he showed his marksmanship skill by winning sharp shooter awards. He loved his family and friends, the land, and all the many animals he raised over the years; cows, horses, dogs, a spider monkey named Poncho, deer, wolves, foxes, pigeon's, hogs and goats. It was the ultimate petting zoo for his nieces and nephews. He was a conservationist of the land, always improving and using it's resources to maintain his ranching heritage. His work ethic was unmatched and his spirit was kind, humble, a true gentleman. He married Betty and they enjoyed 22 wonderful years until her home going last August. For the first time in his lifetime, Joe had the Brown homestead to himself. He would tell stories of years past and reminisce with friends and family that came by. You were loved if you had the opportunity to be in his life. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Brown; parents Hoyt and Allie Mae Brown; Biological mother Alma Gunnels; brother, Stanley Brown; nephews, David Sprouse Jr., Stan Brown; niece Krista Brown Smith. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and David Sprouse of Buffalo Valley; sister Barbara Fierro of Carlsbad, New Mexico; sister-in-law Juanita Brown of Tahlequah; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Sardis Community Center at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 28. Pallbearers are: David Sprouse, Tony Smith, Cross Smith, Chuck Smitherman, Charlie Smitherman, and Shian Smitherman. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice Services for all your help and loving hearts. Also, in lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Sardis Cemetery Fund. He served the community for years by digging graves and preparing the building for services. His service today has been entrusted to McCarn Funeral Services.
